Moczo Family Holiday Portraits

Let me just start off by saying that Nathanial Moczo is growing way too quickly! Ive been photographing the Moczo family and Nathanial since he was still inside Emily's belly! He's such a little firecracker, loves to dance, a little lovebug and so curious to know everything! Yesterday I set up the studio and Nathanial just wasn't having it. He wanted to run around and play with his trucks and dance to his favourite television shows. Even so, we managed to get some pretty cute shots and show off his spunk and his curiousness!

Nichole Hale Studio Shoot

Nichole Hale is the Assistant Photographer for Lady Red Images, who assists me on various photoshoots, but just like the client's we photograph, sometimes we like to be in front of the camera as well! For October, it's been awfully hot in Wilmington and our most recent rain was very needed, to say the least! This past Thursday just so happened to be another rainy day and Nichole contacted me to see if she could book a shoot to get some updated pictures. Now I should mention that Nichole is as laid back as can be, not a care in the world, a tank top and a hoodie kind of girl, who Ive been dying to get in a dress!! Well my begging finally drove her to it so we met at her house, set up the studio, and took some new images of Nichole in her gorgeous new black and white dress!

Tallant Wedding

On October 10, 2010, Ryan Tallant & Piper Wood were married and Lady Red Images was there to capture the memories! The wedding ceremony took place in the couples backyard with their closest friends and family there to watch! The weather was beautiful and sunny, such a perfect day to get married! The bride and groom both wore white and were a stunning site to see. It's refreshing to see two beautiful people who are perfectly in love! Paper cranes, made by the bridesmaids, hung over the wedding ceremony, as the bride made her way to her future husband. The wedding reception took place in The River Room in Downtown, Wilmington over looking the Cape Fear River as the sun was setting. This wedding was such a wonderful experience and we're glad to annouce that this was the first large wedding for Lady Red Images and we couldn't think of a better couple to share this experience with. The couple is currently honeymooning in Mexico and we're so excited for them both & wish them a lifetime of happiness & new adventures as husband and wife! Congrats Ryan & Piper, or should I say, Mr. & Mrs. Tallant!

Re-visiting Chris Bellamy

Last weekend the weather in Wilmington was horrific! There were reports of flooding and the rain was refusing to let up. So, as luck would have it, I had a 4 day weekend from school so I packed my car, gave Chris a call, and told him I was coming to Greensboro! So after what felt like an eternity of driving, I made it safely there where the sun was shining! Although Chris and I had just had a photoshoot here in Wilmington, we decided it would be crazy to pass up the beautiful downtown Greensboro so before I left to go home, we made our way downtown to take some photographs and enjoy Fall finally making it's appearance in North Carolina!

Jessica Phelps

Jessica and I have been talking about doing a photoshoot for month's now but between Jessica's work schedule and my school schedule, we were finding it difficult to find a day were both available. Lucky for us, this past Monday turned out to be absolutely beautiful and a day that we were both free! We'd like to take a chance and thank the MAC cosmetic department in Independence Mall here in Wilmington, NC for their help with Jessica's amazing make up! I'm quite proud of these shots- Jessica was a fantastic model, the location was perfect, and her make up was flawless!

Bianca Devries Ganey & Family

This past Sunday I met with Bianca at Wrightsville Beach to meet her family! Now I'm not just talking about Bianca and her husband, I met with 13 of their closest family for some group & individual shots! Let me tell you, I had a blast with this one. Luckily, I had my assistant, Nichole who who helps assist with weddings and misc photoshoots., there to help me out! We all met around 7:00pm and had to act quick as we would only have an hour before the sun went down, but we made it all work!

Chris Bellamy

Chris has been one of my best friends since high school- well, let me rephrase that- since we both graduated highschool! Despite our rocky start at a friendship, we both became the best of friends after my graduation in 2004, and although he no longer lives in Wilmington, we're still very close and are sure to make plans whenever he's here to visit. This past weekend Chris wanted some updated pictures of himself, so we jumped in the car, found a railroad & start snapping away! Well if you live in Wilmington, you know just how bad the summer days can get here, so we quickly left the heat and headed for downtown. We ended the day sitting in the shade with a cool breeze and had a relaxing picnic in a park near by!

The Mohler Family

On Sunday I had the pleasure of meeting with the Mohler Family at Greenfield Lake here in Wilmington, NC for some family shots. First off, congrats to the Mohler's who are expecting baby #2! Samantha wanted to get the family together and get some family shots of the family pre baby. Mom & Dad brought along their first born, Madison, who is a 5 year old little diva! Had so much fun on this photoshoot, they were up for anything and Madison was just too cute and took the position of my temp assistant and helped walk along the lake to find places for us to photograph. Despite the 95+ degree weather, it was a beautiful day with some beautiful shots & one beautiful family!

You get what you pay for, that's for sure!

Recently a friend of mine at Coopet Photography posted a link to this blog in which a photographer explained her thoughts on the common saying "Your Camera Takes Really Nice Pictures!". Upon reading this blog, I couldn't help but agree with what she was saying and that's when it hit me, although I'm just starting out in the art of photography, it's insulting to anyone who is trying their best to learn the art. It can come off as a compliment to some as to an extent the phrase is correct, yes a professional, high grade camera can do great work, but it's so much more than that. I feel as if a lot of clients will often ask about the price of session and feel uncomfortable with what they are quoted, based on the fact they're not so sure what all goes into what I'm doing.

Let's start off by putting it this way: It is not just the camera & the equipment that makes someone a photographer. If this was true, just anyone could pick up a camera, snap a shot, and call it fabulous. As pointed out in the blog article, it takes a trained eye to spot certain differences. Even the best photographers have to start off somewhere and it's true, not every picture will come out perfect, it's what you do with that image! After every photoshoot, it doesn't end with the photographer packing up, going home, and instantly uploading your images and everything's perfect. No, it's more than that. With every image that's uploading, comes a long way of making sure the image given to you is perfect. This includes colouring, enhancing your image, removing any spots, removing anything from the background that just doesn't belong, even making sure that if your eyes happen to be closed on what has potential to be a great photograph, we can fix that for you!

Provided are 3 of my images from previous photoshoots that each have different editing provided. Including fixing the lighting, removing people from the background, even a studio photoshoot that didn't provide enough backdrop. Check it out:So you see, you're not just paying for the time it takes for the images to be captured, picking the best location and lighting, and picking out the best poses, you're paying for what comes next. Would you prefer to pay for the before or after image?

The reality of it is, you get what you pay for! A photographer is here to help you capture that special moment and preserve it for all of eternity. Why hold on to something mediocre, when you could hold on to something spectacular?

Karen & Labi

Karen has been a great friend of mine since we were both in middle school, but it wasn't until high school that she became more a best friend. We made sure to keep in touch after high school and whenever Karen met Labi & fell in love she asked me to photograph her wedding. At the time photography had a huge interest in me but I wasn't taking it seriously or does as much research and learning as I should. However, when she asked I jumped at the opportunity & borrowed a 35mm camera from my step mother and stepped in as the photographer for Karen & Labi's wedding. The ceremony featured her closest friends and family and the two had a small wedding at Wrightsville Beach, NC by the lagoon where Karen had grown up. Long story short, its Karen & Labi who my biggest inspiration to take my dreams off hold & learn as much about the art as I could! Years later, here I am with Lady Red Images where I learn more & more everyday & truly love what I do! This past Sunday I met with Karen & Labi again for a "just because" photoshoot in Downtown Wilmington, NC as well as on the beach.

Nathanial Moczo- Father's Day Theme

This photoshoot is special to Lady Red Images! This will be the first theme photoshoot that I have done, in honour of Father's Day! I have shot with Emily & her son Nathanial Moczo on numerous occasions and this time we chose a Yankees theme for Daddy's favourite sports team! Emily & I met at Ogden Park here in Wilmington on probably one of the hottest days we've had this summer! Despite the heat, Nathanial was a champ and ran around the baseball field in shear delight and didn't even mind that I was snapping away with my camera! We spent most of the shoot in the dugout chugging back water, but he continued to be a huge sport, literally! We were able to get quite a few fun & playful shots and it was very hard to narrow them down to a few favourites to share, but these are my personal favourites!

Nichole Hale

Nichole is a good friend of mine whom I met while working at a local animal hospital here in Wilmington. Although upon my leaving, Nichole and I made sure to stay in touch and we quickly became close friends. Luckily, not only is Nichole a great person, she loves the camera just as much as I do! I jokingly call her my "Photo Taking Soulmate". We often try to get together when we can and take our cameras out to random locations around town and see what we can get into. Today we decided to meet in downtown Wilmington and walk around. We ended the day getting stuck in the dirt trying to find a railroad, which quickly became an adventure, but we started off downtown at the library parking deck to get some random shots of the city, and for an impromptu photoshoot of Nichole! As always, to view these images in larger size, or to view more similar photos please visit my Flickr account.

Christy Larson

On Saturday, May 15th, I was able to set up my studio for the first time! I'm so proud to say that Lady Red Images is now able to do on location studio photoshoots! I'll tell ya, setting up the studio for the first time was both a little frustrating & exciting all at the same time! I had a little trouble figuring it all out at first but once everything was set up and finished, I couldn't wait to get started! Christy Larson is a family friend of ours who actually used to be my aunts next door neighbor before moving to Fayetteville, NC for her work. She contacted me earlier in the week and asked if we could do a fun images & I jumped at the chance to help her out & learn more about the photography aspect. We were able to do some fun pictures to test out my new studio & lighting. I'm very proud of how this photoshoot turned out & I'm very excited for many more studio shoots to come! So thank you Christy for driving 2 hours to book a shoot with me & help me learn more about my studio!

Hello blog, I'm sorry for neglecting you!

Hey everyone! Many thanks to those of you who are still following this blog even though I've been absent since November! A lot of big changes have happened in my world lately and I'll admit, I put learning photography on the back burner to truly evaluate my life. But don't worry, things are well now, and Ive picked back up the camera and I'm more dedicated than ever to learn more about this art! With the help of Brian Mohrman & Kimi Coopet, Lady Red Images was able to receive CS3 of Photoshop and Totally Rad Actions! I'm already addicted & learning everything I can about editing, resizing, etc! Also, for my birthday in March, my mother totally surprised me with studio lighting, backdrops, stands, and other misc. items to start my own studio! Although I have not had a chance to play with it quite yet, I have booked my first studio shoot for this Saturday, May 15, with Christy Larson! I have also applied with Lifetouch Photostudios to become a School Photographer and I am currently waiting on the phone call that decides the answer, so fingers crossed for that! Could be a great chance & experience for me to learn more about the camera. Now, with all that said, here are a few misc. images Ive captured since we last spoke! :-)As always, to view these images in larger size, or to view more similar photos please visit my Flickr account and to catch up on all of the images that Ive captured since the last update!
